THE STRENGTH WITHIN

BELLAONLINE Disabilities Newsletter

We have had such strange weather in the Central Valley this year. Spring is early and hot after a very unusually warm winter. The good news is that everything is blooming and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables are showing up at the corner stands.

There is so much to write about under the Disabilities topic that I can’t seem to get it out fast enough. So many great changes are taking place internationally concerning the disability community!

This week I posted two articles that I found interesting and hope you do too.
------------------------------------------

PROSTHETIC FAIRINGS
A company in San Francisco has come up with what they call “fairings” to attach around prosthetic legs. They are very unusual and pretty hip.

I will be starting a series next week on Activities of Daily Living. I think there is a need to start at the basics and on a topic that is really important. Please let me know other subjects that you would like to know about.

DEAF HUMOR
Like any culture (or sub-culture) there are ‘in jokes’ and there is plenty of deaf humour around which play on the differences between hearing and deafness. Through humour we can laugh at ourselves and be laughed at without being ridiculed.

FIBRO AND PETS
Can pets really help you feel better when you're chronically ill? One of my reader shares her experiences and this wonderful article with us.
