The latest article from the Baha'i site at BellaOnline.com is the short answer to, "What are the Bahá'ís doing about the predicted coming end of the world?" Do we believe it? If so, aren't we panicked, or smug in whatever our own belief might be? Or are we busy scaring up new recruits with impending doom? (Sorry for the pun. Couldn't help myself.)
Truth is, I'm old enough that I know the end of my world is much closer than it ever was. I'm also impatient with those who wish to sell me something using threats of damnation or destruction. Makes me downright cranky! We are in the middle of a national election year here in the US, and all that advertising is not doing my temper any good, either.
So, although I definitely know the end is coming for me eventually, I do not have any idea what date that might be, nor do I care particularly. The Bahá'í Faith does not even approach the idea that God will suddenly end all of creation, because its teachings are much more focused on making the very best use of this material life while we have it available to develop the virtues of character.
Me, too.
