Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

Samuel Adams 2005 Utopias MMIII is ready and rockin' at about $100 a bottle!  This limited edition brew comes in a look-alike mini-copper brewing kettle, and pours deep amber with no head.  Guinness World Records confirms that it holds the ribbon for Strongest Commercially Available Beer.

Vanilla, caramel and a kiss of maple are refined by the sophisticated aging in oak casks that have residual blends of scotch, port, bourbon and cognac  embedded within the wooden fibers.  A complexity of flavor that is uncommon in the realm of beer.  Enjoy from a brandy snifter, room temperature, while sitting down!

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the bar. After an hour of gathering up his courage he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, "Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?"

She responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!" Everyone in the bar is now staring at them.

Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table.

After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a graduate student in psychology and I'm studying how people respond to embarrassing situations."

To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean, $200?"

Beer News:

The Qingdao International Beer Festival attracts over 1.2 million visitors over 16 days at the Qingdao Shilaoren National Holiday Resort in Beer City, Shandong, China.  It is the largest beer festival in Asia, with opening ceremonies, beach and drinking competitions, fireworks, rides. Twelve beer camps of diverse styles will be set up over 16 square miles, and include brewers from the USA, Denmark, Germany and Britain, as well as domestic Asian brewers.    August 14-29, 2005.

Style - Old Ale

Deep ebony, like shining keys on a piano, with thick tan head that settles to a patchy veil.  Aromas are of burnt, sweet chocolate - slightly nutty.

Rich flavor, sweet dark fruit, then bitter, malty, touched with earth and wood, organic, nut-like chocolate and mild caramel.  Creamy mouthfeel.  Begins as a few notes on a keyboard, and ascends into a crescendo of symphonic song.
