Leonard Peltier is the subject of books, movies, and many songs. I did not know of the events which led to his first degree murder conviction and consecutive life sentences. This week’s article describes what had been happening on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the early 1970’s.

My daughter did her first criminal justice term paper on the Trial of Leonard Peltier. I was as proud of the topic chosen as the A she made on it. Despite this being such a grim story, I was joyful in her using a college assignment to learn more about American Indian history.

Some people may think this is a “cut and dry” issue. But they don’t realize that as the US was preparing to leave Vietnam, there was a “war” ongoing in our own backyard. The tactics used by the FBI back then are pertinent today.

Join us in the forum this week for information on movies and books by or about Leonard Peltier. Share your thoughts on this controversial situation.

Labor Day will be here soon, and there are Pow Wows all across the country listed in the forum. Check it out for one near you. If I've missed one, please share the information with us. Taking the kids to a Pow Wow can be an exciting weekend before the drudgery of school sets in. Until next time,
