There's good news from Virginia. Governor Bob McDonnell announced that sales of Virginia wine reached an all-time high in Fiscal Year 2013, increasing by more than 5 percent to 511,000 cases of wine.
The first commercial sales of Virginia wines to mainland China were completed in FY12 and new export agreements have been reached since then. Sales of Virginia wines to Great Britain and London, the world's largest wine import market, continued to grow during the last fiscal year as well.
Virginia currently ranks fifth in the number of wineries in the USA with more than 230. Virginia now ties with Texas as fifth largest wine grape producing state
