August 31 2007 Irish Culture Newsletter

Here's the latest article from the Irish Culture site at BellaOnline.com.

Friday August 31 2007. The first signs that summer is leaving us and that
the fall and winter days aren't far off were here this morning. Light fog,
cooler air---what we used to call back in Ireland " A Brisk Mornin".No
doubt we will still have some more of those hot and humid days, but as the
cycle continues, we need to prepare and get ready for winter !!!
So too is the cycle of life. How many of us are at an age when we can look
back and definitely say that the spring and summer of our youth are long
gone? Perhaps you are working your way through the "autumn" of your days,
or perhaps you have already felt the chill of winter' blasts.
Life is an attitude!!
Yesterday I was pleased to be complimented. I found myself in a situation
in which I had to divulge my real age ( It's not only women who want to
forget that number!!). When I gave it, the clerk looked at me and very
straightforwardly said: "Oh --I would have thought you were 6 or 7 years
younger than that ". Ohhhh ---God bless her little heart.
But it caused me to think again.
So many of we baby boomers and even our children, are facing the hardships
of age with the wrong attitude. May I give you the right one???? You can't
stop getting older; But you can stop getting old!
Start walking a little bit again. Get out into the air and enjoy its
freshness and the beauty of nature that God has given us.Watch what you
are eating. Don't drink too much --you know excess in anything is a no-no.
Reduce the smoking ( Yes I DO know how difficult that is. No, I never have
been a smoker , but so far this year I have lost 29 pounds in excess weight ---so I can empathize).
Happiness and "joie de vivre" are not only for the young. In fact, we
"oldies" ought to be out there showing young people how life really should
be lived to the max, without destroying ourselves or causing pain to
others. Enjoy your winter---- who knows what lies ahead?
