August 9 2007 Native American Newsletter

O'siyo to all,

I hope your week is going well. We are enjoying a bout of sunshine here in the Land of Enchantment, it looks like our rainy season has taken a break for a few days. I know it isn't over yet, but I am enjoying the sun while I can!

This weekend is the Navajo Nation's Intertribal Ceremonial in Gallup, NM, which I will be attending. For more info on this exciting pow wow, go to:
www.gallupintertribal.com/
I'll be taking you with me to this event, through my article next week, so stay tuned!

The following weekend is Indian Market in Santa Fe. I have been featuring guest authors in my last three articles, including the one I just posted today on the Native American site at BellaOnline.com:

Indian Market Guest Author Series: Avenging Victorio
New Mexico’s Pope of Peppers and founder of Chile Pepper magazine, Dave DeWitt, brings the tale of the Apache Insurgency in New Mexico in 1881 to life in his new novel, “Avenging Victorio”. Join him at the official book-signing event at Santa Fe’s Indian Market on August 18th.

I am giving you a bonus article this week, also on a New Mexico subject, the Pueblo Indians:

Catholic Missionaries and New Mexico’s Pueblo Indians: Saints of the Pueblos – A Review
What is the connection between the New Mexico Pueblo Indians and the Spanish Catholics who settled here? It involves Hispanic art, Pueblo Missions, Native history, and a blending of spiritual practices. All are discussed in the book, Saints of the Pueblos, which receives my highest recommendation.

That wraps it up for our book review and author series for a while. The next two weeks we'll have articles on the Gallup Intertribal, and the Santa Fe Indian Market, and all the fun I'll be having there!

Don't forget to visit the Native American home page at BellaOnline.com for much more information on Native Americans, from book reviews to scholarships, from recipes to spirituality, all that and more can be found in our links section.

Our Native American forum is free, fun, and welcomes all. Stop by sometime and say hello, ask a question, leave a comment, meet new friends who share your interests, or just read all the wonderful posts:
