It's hard to believe 10 years have passed. I did watch a few of the programs on 9/11/2001 this weekend, and cried again, as I did that day. With such tremendous loss, it has been a struggle to apply the teachings of a Mohawk Elder. With Tribal permission, this was shared on a PBS program in the late 1980's.

We are each born with a number of moons in our hand. There are no accidents. There are no tragedies.

Those words sounded so harsh when I first heard them, despite being spoken with love and respect. With all that has happened since, they still seem harsh and even heartless. But then Acceptance is always a very hard lesson and process.

I do find comfort in the Circles, both big and small, of Life and traditions. This week's article on the Mohawk "Skywalkers" shares a tradition that continues.

The Skywalkers and September 11th
Skywalkers are the agile, brave American Indian men who walk steel beams far above our city streets. They helped build the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the World Trade Center Towers. Those who have followed are re-building.
