Last night Grandmother Moon shone brightly in a clear sky for all to see here in Washoe Valley. Looking down upon the desert, Grandmother Moon blessed us with her brilliant light, as she has done for generation upon generations. I heard Brother Coyote off in the distance offering a song of thanks to the Ancient Grandmother. Critters in the sands and sagebrush stopped long enough to hear the song then went scurrying off on their nightly chores, with moonlight showing the way. The last of desert blooms gazed up to Grandmother with their faces alight. Paintbrush, Phlox, Purple Sage, Tidy Tips, Desert Peach, and many other glorious wildflowers bathed in the silver glow of Grandmother's gift. Harvest time is nearly upon us, or in some places already in progress or completed. It is a good idea to check out your recipe boxes and get out those old favorite and tasty family treasures. My recipe box holds hand-written pages of secrets passed down from Grandmothers of the past. There is nothing more warming and loving than to set a harvest feast on your table and watch your family enjoy it.

If Great Spirit has blessed you with a bountiful harvest, give thanks - and remember the less fortunate. Fill baskets and boxes with excess vegetables and fruits and take them to the nearest Reservation. The light of joy on the faces of hungry Elders, children and their parents, will be one of the most rewarding gifts. Please share your blessings.
