November 23 2015 Baha'i Newsletter

It is Thanksgiving holiday week here in the USA, and this day of family visiting and overeating has long been a favorite for me. Also, this year, a Bahá'í holy day of remembrance is the same day, November 26. I have celebrated the Day of the Covenant (and 'Abdu'l-Bahá's birth and station) to remember family, friends and others who have passed from this world. Thanksgiving for me is about currant family and friends; Day of the Covenant is about those no longer with me. This year, both will occur on the same day. And with Turkey roast! Who could ask for more?

Well, me, of course. Last weekend was our local Friends of the Library fund raiser book sale, and I found all sorts of used books to buy for pennies (and return for the next sale when I'm done). But I'll keep the one I just finished by Patch Adams, M.D., which he describes as a workbook for improving general health: "House Calls: how we can all heal the world one visit at a time." Made be think about basic community building as it is practiced in the Bahá'í Faith. Here's the latest article from the Bahá'í site at BellaOnline.com.

For more about the Day of the Covenant:
November 26 is the Day of the Covenant, chosen by 'Abdu'l-Bahá to commemorate a first in religious history: a clearly delineated change of leadership that would prevent successful schism.
