"We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless can help us to be much more than what we are." - Adelle Davis.
To me, this means that occasionally indulging in a hot fudge brownie sundae with nuts or cheese-covered nachos with jalopeno peppers broadens my life by letting me experience it more fully. This in turn helps me grow into a complete, well-rounded woman (hopefully not literally. Uh oh, do you think Adelle meant her quote literally?!? Ah well, I'll go with my first impression that she meant it figuratively.)
I may be rationalizing so I can enjoy my indulgences without guilt, but...what about you? Have you ever looked at food as a tool to help you be more than what you are, or experience more than you have - in a positive, healthy way?
