This weekend, I was reading the memoir "Smoke" by Meili Cady. Like countless other young women, Cady moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school to become an actress.She landed a few commercials and walk-on roles, but was unable to make a living acting. She fell under the spell of a con artist named Lisette Lee and become part of a drug smuggling operation. At times, Cady's naivete is stunning and you can only marvel at her ability to believe what she wants to believe. The book is compulsively readable, though, and is a guilty pleasure; perfect for the beach or a vacation. Classic film fans will be interested to know that Cady is the grand-niece of silent film actress Wanda Hawley. Hawley co-starred with Rudolph Valentino in "The Young Rajah".


The Tribeca Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday, April 15th. As part of the Tribeca Talks:Director Series, both George Lucas and Christopher Nolan will be discussing their respective careers.
