"...the horrible and frightening revelation [is] that in order to be good at what you do, you have to go deeper and deeper with each part and have to eviscerate yourself in a way that the man in the audience would never dream of doing. It may be that I keep doing it because I'm afraid to die. It may be that simple fact. The idea of saying, "I did this, I won that, I didn't win that, and now I'll just stop." - that isn't me. I'm a worker. If I don't pit myself against things that are larger than myself, I'm lost." Actor Frank Langella
Frank Langella is enjoying a good year. In June, he won his fourth Tony Award for best leading actor in a play. He has also appeared in two feature films, "Youth in Oregon" opposite Billy Crudup, and "Captain Fantastic", which opened in New York and Los Angeles this past weekend. "Captain Fantastic", in which Langella plays Viggo Mortensen's father-in-law, has received excellent reviews. The distributor is opening the film slowly, hoping to benefit from word-of-mouth.
Elliott Gould, Langella's co-star in "The Caller", is also keeping busy. He has three films in post-production and is currently working on the television series, "Doubt", which will premiere in 2017. Gould and Langella both turn 78 this year, but show no signs of slowing down. Regarding their performances in "The Caller", I think Langella has the better role. He once said, "There are certain animals in the jungle that you watch, and I like to be one of those." His interpretation of "Dracula" (1979) is an excellent example of his magnetic on-screen presence.
