REMEMBERING 9/11
Even five years later, most of us remember exactly what we were doing on 9/11/01.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

"Are you ready, guys? Let's roll!"
--Todd Beamer, passenger on United Flight 93, before leading an attack on the terrorists who had hijacked the plane

TIP OF THE WEEK:

Trauma tends to hit us hard on the anniversaries of our losses. Even if you think now that five years has passed you are "over" September 11, be extra gentle and patient with yourself this week. You may find yourself frustrated or irritable or just plain sad.

If you lost a loved one in the terrorist attacks, my heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself by doing what you need to do. If it helps to watch the news coverage, then by all means do so. If the thought of seeing the attacks again makes you sick, then avoid the coverage. Honor your loved one's memory in some way special to you.

MEMORIAL

This is off the topic of September 11, but most of us this week also mourned the death of Steve Irwin, the intrepid crocodile hunter. No, he never convinced me that a six-foot long snake with fangs the size of knitting needles was "a beauty," but I always respected him for trying and I appreciated his efforts to conserve all animals and not just the cute and cuddly ones. Fans wishing to honor Mr. Irwin might consider a donation to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide.
