About the BellaOnline African Culture Editor

My name is Jeanne Daigle. I am married to a Nigerian from the Ibo tribe. In the early 1990s, I joined the US Peace Corps and taught mathematics, English, and physics in Kenya. I learned Swahili and a few words and phrases in the Teso language along with a lot about Kenyan Culture. I have a daughter who is one half Kenyan - one half Luhya/Samia to be exact.

Since then I have been researching all aspects of African Culture and writing about African Culture since 1997. This site is going to be an "Africa for Beginners" type of site. There are plenty of "Africa for Africans" websites out there. In talking with people, I have discovered a lot of non-African people know absolutely nothing about Africa and even think Africa is a country instead of a continent made up of many African nations and tribes.

The articles on this African Culture site date back to as early as 2000. Some of the information may be outdated. I am currently working on updating these articles. If you see something that appears to be outdated, please email me with your email address and any sources you may have for the new information.

If there is something you´d like to see on this sight or a question you want answered - email me through this page or post a message in the African Culture Forum. I really do appreciate your emails and comments. Be sure to include your email address so I can respond.
