Shuffle!

Guest Author - Lesley Aeschliman

Shuffle! started out as an adult visual novel. The PC version was aimed at adults, while a PlayStation 2 version was toned down to an all-ages game (the PlayStation 2 version was released under the title, Shuffle! On the Stage). While the explicit material was removed from the anime, there is still some fanservice and light nudity.

In the world of Shuffle!, humans live in harmony with gods and devils. The gods resemble humans but have slightly pointed ears. The devils also look like humans, but they have prominent pointed ears.

The main character of Shuffle! is a 17-year-old high school boy named Rin Tsuchimi. He lives with his childhood friend, a girl named Kaede Fuyou. They come to live together after Kaede's mother and Rin's parents die in a car accident. After starting junior high, Kaede started taking care of Rin. Kaede, who has a crush on Rin, is easily embarrassed; however, she is happy with her role as a homemaker.

One day, two new transfer students join Rin and Kaede's class. They are Lisianthus (who goes by the nickname Sia) and Nerine. Sia is the energetic and outgoing daughter of the Lord of Gods. Nerine is the daughter of the Lord of Devils. It turns out Rin has been selected as the potential marriage candidate for Sia and Nerine. To add to this, Rin is also being pursued by Asa and Primula (who are two other girls at school).

Shuffle! is a harem style anime, where the male protagonist is surrounded by several girls, and he has to decide which one he ultimately wants to be with. While this series shares the harem and "goddess" elements of Oh! My Goddess, this series focuses on high school students instead of a college student. When looking at the content of this series, I would personally recommend Shuffle! to anime viewers who are 16 years of age and older.
