The First Family of Great Faith

Guest Author - Pamela Chambers

Noah was a man of rich faith. His family could be called “The First Family of Faith”. The family is the first institution where learning about relationships, honor and leadership. Noah and his family helped God tremendously, after the “Fall of Man”. Noah demonstrated true leadership to his family.

During the time of Noah, God was displeased with people’s worship and the condition of their hearts. God was in the state of regret about creating his most prize possession: mankind. Unlike the majority of the population, Noah and his family worshiped God with their lifestyles. It is not a surprise that God chose Noah and family to build the ark.

The building of the ark was a daunting task. Although Noah and his family had not built an ark before, they followed God’s instructions until the ark was visible. This faithful family lived righteous lives in the midst of condemnation, ridicule and taunting during the construction of the ark. We have to live a life that is pleasing to God, while ignoring the multiple voices within the world system and our culture.

Listening to man’s voice, only complicates the situation. What are you faced with that may cause ridicule from the world system or mankind? When it looks like faith is hard to accomplish, remember that we as Christians have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us to truth. The word of God is an important asset to our lives, which should be applied daily through meditation, prayer, praise and worship. We cannot apply the word of God to our lives if other activities are priorities over the word of God.

Noah used God’s word, and his family support to get him through the tough faith building experience. That is why it is important to spend time with other Christians who are faithful to God’s word. Christians who share time with other are spiritually accountable and strengthened. Gathering with one another, allow individuals to know that suffering is difficult, but no one has to face it alone.

Noah’s family was able to go through this difficult time successfully, because Noah was a righteous man, who built a spiritual foundation for his family, by being the king and priest of his household. Noah served as a great role model for his sons and daughters. He chose to daily seek the face of God. When Noah and his family were commissioned to build the ark, they were spiritually prepared for the circumstance.

Faith is a process that is built daily and over time. Developing great faith is not just for the individual who builds faith, but for people who are depending on someone to help them get through a difficult milestone, so one day they can help others. As a Christian builds faith, he prepares himself to be a stronger witness for his neighbor and his descendants to come. When we stay true to God, God stays true to us. What type of spiritual faith legacy are you building for your family? In years to come, will your family be remembered as a family of great faith?
