The life accounts of several women paint the pages of the Bible starting with Eve, the first woman to walk on the earth. When Eve succumbed to satan’s deception, sin entered the world. From then on there were no holds barred and sin began to multiply and corrupt God’s world, even as people multiplied. Maybe the Bible begins with a bleak picture of women as one who initiated sin. However, that was certainly not the purpose for which God created woman.

God’s purpose for woman was to be a helper and companion to man. Not to laud it over him or to be trampled under his foot. Women however have been given little or no room to live up to their God ordained purposes. Ancient cultures especially those in vogue during Biblical times were known to ill treat women, who were looked upon as commodities rather than persons. Man was quick to forget that woman, made from his rib was to be protected and loved. Even today women in many cultures live derogatory lives.

While that may not sound encouraging, women are still valued by God as one of His delicate creations, fashioned in His image and having inherent feelings, capabilities and interests. The value of women in any culture comes from whose she is and it is certainly edifying for women today to realize that they belong to God their Maker, who loves them just the way they are.

The women spoken of in the Bible did not all emerge realizing their worth in God’s eyes. Some did and gained for themselves eternal recognition while others who didn’t, followed after idolatrous living and wanton pleasures cutting a sorry figure. No matter how they lived, all these women have a message to offer, some good and some not so good. As women of this trendy, fashionable age, we would do well to model our lives after the pattern of godly Bible women and rid ourselves of licentious thoughts or actions that characterized perverted women mentioned in the Bible.
