Get Moving


Learning disabilities can consume your life if you let it. Negative thoughts and fears can overtake your thinking. An active life can improve the quality of life. Enjoyment of the little things in life can have a huge impact on daily living.

Hobbies can be a great way to spend time doing things that you enjoy. There are hundreds of indoor hobbies that could get you moving. The list is endless. These are some ideas:

Genealogy
Knitting
Jigsaw puzzles
Flower arrangements
Painting
Reading
Sowing
Writing
Acting
Cooking
Crocheting

Outdoor hobbies can be exciting as well. If you get frustrated at the thought of spending too much time indoors, then an outside activity just might be the thing for you. Get out and get moving. Get the adrenalin pumping. A little adventure can make the days go by so much faster. Some outdoor activities that might gain your interest are:

Baseball
Basketball
Bodybuilding
Fishing
Paintball
Photography
Skiing
Skydiving
Horseback Riding
Jogging

You do not have to stop here. There are many hobbies that may interest you. Be creative. Take the time to consider your likes and dislikes. Think about the ways you spend your time. If you would do a particular activity even if you didn’t get paid, then that might be a perfect hobby.

Don’t know where to start? Take a look around your community. Organizations can help get you going. One particular organization that comes to mind is the YMCA. They offer swimming, aerobics, pool and water exercise, gym, and much more.

Getting active in the community is a great way to build communication skills. Children, as well as adults with learning disabilities have the ability to live a full and active life. The ability to communicate with others is essential to social growth.

Small achievements can have a life changing effect. It is a good feeling to be able to accomplish goals. Learning can be made fun with hobbies. Life can get you down if you are not careful. Fight negative thoughts and disappointments with positive thinking and great hobbies that will get you moving.
