Today In …

1795 - The 11th Constitutional amendment was ratified.

1904 - The Great Baltimore fire began. When it was over, the fire had destroyed over a thousand buildings.

Sharing A Birthday Today…

Thomas Andrews, one of the shipbuilders for the legendary Titanic was born in 1873. He would aide in getting passengers off the ship but would loose his life in the tragedy. Andrews was portrayed by Victor Garber in the 1997 movie “Titanic”.

Garth Brooks the infamous singer of such hits as “The Dance”, “Callin’ Baton Rouge” and “Standing Outside the fire” was born in 1962.

Buster Crabbe, Olympic medalist and actor who portrayed Flash Gordon, was born in 1908.

John Deere, the industrialist who founded Deere & Company which was renowned for its farming equipment, was born in 1804.

Charles Dickens, the renowned author who penned such favorites as “A Christmas Carol” and “Oliver Twist” was born in 1812.

Miguel Ferrer, the actor who has appeared in “RoboCop” and “Traffic” was born in 1955.

Ashton Kutcher the actor who starred in TV’s “That ‘70’s Show” and in the movie “Dude, Where’s My Car” was born in 1978.

Tina Majorino the actress who has starred in TV’s “Veronica Mars” and in the comedy “Napoleon Dynamite” was born in 1985.

Chris Rock, the actor and comedian who appeared in “Dogma”, “Lethal Weapon 4” and the remake of “The Longest Yard” was born in 1965.

James Spader who has starred in such films as “Pretty In Pink”, “sex, lies and videotape” and on TV’s “Boston Legal” was born in 1960.

Laura Ingalls Wilder, the author whose “Little House” books became the basis for the hit TV show “Little House on the Prairie” was born in 1867.

We Said Goodbye To…

Dale Evans, actress, wife of Roy Rogers and Queen of the Cowgirls passed away in 2001 at the age of 88. She wrote the memorable song “Happy Trails”.

Harvey Firestone the renowned tire manufacturer passed away in 1938 at the age of 69.

King Hussein of Jordan passed away in 1999 at the age of 63.

Josef Mengele drowned in 1979. Mengele who is known for his human experiments at Auschwitz during World War II escaped to South America in the days following the war and eventually drowned in Brazil at the age of 67.

Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wife of legendary aviator Charles Lindbergh, passed away in 2001 at the age of 94.

Ann Radcliffe the author who wrote “A Sicilian Romance” and “The Italian” passed away in 1823 at the age of 58.

Musical Moments In…

1964 - Beatlemania officially begans when the Beatles make their first appearance in the U.S. The Fab Four were greeted by over 3,000 fans when they arrived at New York’s Kennedy Airport.

Movie Moments In...

1914 - Charlie Chaplin’s alter ego “The Tramp” made his film debut in “Kid Auto Races at Venice” with the Keystone Cops.

1940 - The Disney classic “Pinocchio” premiered.

1974 - The Mel Brooks comedy “Blazing Saddles” premiered.

1997 - “Dante’s Peak” starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton premiered.
