Lavender & Rose, Sweet Blends For A Great Perfume
No perfume begins its journey without its base of an essential oil. Lavender and Rose are two of these oils.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is one of the essential oils that often find’s its way into most perfumes. It is considered the all-purpose essential oil. Remember the story that’s always told about Lavender oil, Dr. Rene-Maurice Gattefosse was working in his laboratory when he seriously burned his hand. Immediately he immersed his hand into a bowl of liquid sitting on the table. The liquid was lavender oil. But the pain quickly went away and the wound healed in a short time without leaving scarring.
I speak from experience when I tell you that I've burned myself and put lavender on the burned area and it worked. No blistering and no discoloration to my skin.
When using lavender as a scent in a perfume, as women we like to experience it in the bath salts, body oil or a body butter.
One way to experience lavender is to infuse your bath with calming and soothing properties of pure lavender oil. Add two drops of lavender oil to your bath water after you've filled your tub. By adding the oil to running water it will evaporate and you will not experience the pleasure of its tranquil properties.
You can also add a few drops of lavender oil to mineral rich Mediterranean sea salt and revive your skin and your spirit, with a salt bath.
Before applying any essential oil to your skin you should dilute it and test it in a small area that will not be seen by the public. But most of the time Lavender oil can be applied directly on your skin.
Lavender oil mixes well with bergamot, orange, lemon, geranium, Clary Sage, pine and Rose.
Rose Essential Oil
Rose essential oil is another oil that's used in the perfume industry. The rose is often referred to as the Queen of flowers. Her fragrance, captured in any spiritual oil is said to be the most precious of all heavenly scents, but that's only if you like Rose. Rose oil on one hand is the fragrance of purity and innocence but on the other hand it's an aphrodisiac that stimulates sensuality. Even in highly diluted concentrations, rose oil has a very strong psychological effect.
Only a few rose species are cultivated on a large scale and used for distillation. The damask rose is primarily grown in Bulgaria, which is the largest rose growing plantation in the world. Bulgaria produces some of the most superior rose oil in the world. Rose oil is an expensive essential oil but a few drops added to any perfumed blend makes it worth the price.
One drop of Rose oil in your bath and your environment will be changed for hours.
Three to four drops of Rose oil in 1 ounce of jojoba oil and you’ve got yourself a natural perfume.
So the next time you're in a creative mood and want to make your own perfume blend be sure to have Lavender and Rose as two of the ingredients in your blend.
