Green Green Complete

Green Green Complete is a three-disc DVD box set released by Media Blasters / Anime Works. However, the title of the set is a little misleading, since technically there is one episode not included. The rating included on this box set is 16 and older, and I agree with that rating for the set. Each DVD contains four episodes of the series, as well as some extras and trailers. The extras for the DVDs came from three character DVDs released in Japan back in 2003 and 2004.

The first DVD includes a short episode that features Reika and Midori; some of the content in the short includes nudity and innuendo. There are also two “Image Songs” included. Each song has clips from the Green Green anime, and each song features one character. The first song is “Rocket,” and it features scenes of Midori. The second song, “Cherry,” features scenes of Reika. A textless version of the opening credits is included, as well as television spots. There are about five or six television spots, and it appears that they are advertisements for the character DVDs that were released in Japan. There are also four Anime Works trailers included: Mouse, Grenadier, Eiken, and Midori Days.

The second DVD includes a short episode that features Futaba and Chigusa. Like the short on the first disc, this one also includes nudity and innuendo. Two image songs are included: “Koikaze Fukutabi” and “Kiss Me.” The first song features scenes of Futaba, while the second song features scenes of Chigusa. There is also a textless version of the closing credits available. The Anime Works trailers included on this DVD are: Voltron, Tattoon Master, Ah My Goddess, and The Gokusan.

The short episode on the third DVD features Wakaba and Sanae. This short includes nudity and a bit of sexual innuendo. There are also two image songs included on the disc: “Everlasting Star” and “... Happy.” The first song features scenes of Sanae, while the second one features scenes of Wakaba. There are also three alternate end credits sequences: one features Futaba and Wakaba, the second features Bacchi-Gu and Hikaru Ichiban-Boshi, and the third features Sanae and Tenjin. The Anime Works trailers included on this disc are: Mouse, Grenadier, Eiken, and Ah My Goddess.

The Green Green anime is ultimately mindless entertainment, but it’s done in a way that it’s enjoyable. While Green Green Complete may not be teeming with a lot of special features, I think the set has enough to satisfy viewers. If you are a fan of Green Green, then this box set should be added to your DVD collection.
