Rozen Maiden

Rozen Maiden
Rozen Maiden is an anime series based on a manga series created by Peach-Pit.

The main character in Rozen Maiden is a junior high school student named Jun Sakurada, who refuses to go back to school. He also avoids leaving his home, and spends his time ordering goods from online vendors and returning them before the grace period is over. One day, Jun receives a letter asking if he will "Wind or Not Wind"; he circles "Wind" and leaves the letter in his drawer as the letter instructs him to do. The letter disappears, and a case appears in his room.

Inside the case is a realistic looking doll that has a key to wind her. Jun takes the key and winds her up; the doll starts moving on her own, and introduces herself as Shinku, the fifth doll in the Rozen Maiden series. Jun ends up becoming Shinku's "medium," and as her medium, he provides his own life energy to allow her to walk on her own and to use magic. To symbolize this relationship, they both wear a ring with a rose on it.

Jun has an older sister named Nori, who is taking care of the Sakurada household while both of their parents are working abroad. She can be clumsy, but she really cares about her younger brother. Nori tends to Jun and to Shinku, but she usually does not have any real involvement in their affairs.

When watching the first episode of Rozen Maiden, I really didn't see anything too terribly objectionable in the visuals. However, since the main character of the series is a middle school student and what he's going through, I really wouldn't recommend this series for younger viewers. Personally, I would recommend Rozen Maiden to anime viewers who are 13 or 14 years of age and older.
