Noir is an anime series produced by the Bee Train animation studio, and was directed by Koichi Mashimo.

The main characters of Noir are two female assassins named Kirika Yuumura and Mireille Bouquet. Kirika is an amnesiac teenage girl, and the only things she remembers are the word "noir" and her killing skills. Mireilla, on the other hand, is a Corsican woman who starts out as a professional assassin at the beginning of the series. Mireilla and her uncle were the sole survivors of a brutal attack on their family, and Mireilla's uncle trained her to become the assassin that she is.

For her personal firearm, Kirika has a Beretta M1934, while Mireille has a Walther P99. Together, Kirika and Mireille embark on a personal journey to seek the answers to mysteries concerning their past. At first, their pasts only seem to be vaguely related to each other, but as the series progresses, it's hinted that there's more going on than it appears on the surface.

While on this journey, the two women form an alliance and begin performing assassinations under the code name "Noir" (which is French for "black"). In the series, "Noir" is also known as the name of the two maidens who govern death. As the series progresses, Kirika and Mireilla are constantly being lured into traps by a secret organization going under the name of Les Soldats (which is "The Soldiers" in French).

Noir has a very interesting premise going for it; however, since the two main characters are assassins, violence is an integral part of the series. In the first episode, several guns are fired, which results in a number of deaths. In addition, there is also a scene which includes a death by strangulation. When it comes to the visuals, there really wasn't any real blood shown in the first episode, even with all of the gunfire being exchanged at one point in the story.

FUNimation has given Noir a rating of TV-14; however, I believe this series is better suited for anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
