Great Herbs to Grow


Did you know that herbs are used for body care, beauty, health, medicinal purposes, and even in cooking preparations? It is quite true. it is also interesting to note that a growing number of people are discovering that herbs are a much better treatment for body care, beauty, health. The herbs also create a warm inviting home environment when their unique aromas are released into the air. In addition, herbs certainly add flavor and spice to foods. There are literally thousands of herbal plants that are grown all over the world. It is easier than you might think to get started creating your own little herbal garden on a kitchen windowsill or even in a small outside space. Personally, I've had great fun growing peppermint, lavender, and sage in a home garden. Here are popular herbs to grow.

Beauty/Body Care Herbs
A large number of herbs are used in beauty and body care preparations today. They are used in creams, lotions, oils, shampoos, conditioners. Some even use the herbs in special steam preparations to treat facial problems. It is thought that the steam helps remove toxins by increasing circulation and opening the pores. Here are popular favorites.

Lavender - Lavender is thought to deliver great number of surprising benefits. Lavender oil is commonly used in many beauty preparations, perfumes, soaps, and cleaning products. A bath that is filled with lavender is thought to soothe tired feet.

Chamomile - Chamomile tea that is use to rinse brown hair creates natural golden highlights.

Sage - An infusion of sage tea that is poured through dull black hair adds nutrients and makes hair glow with a natural healthy dark highlights.

Cooking Herbs
Here are a few very tasty herbal selections to regard for growing in a home garden to spice up food or add instant flavor.

Basil - The basil plant has a very sweet flavor that is favored in soups, salads, pasta and meat dishes.

Ginger - `Fresh ginger is a very spicy herb that is used in cakes, pies, and tea preparations.

Oregano - The herb has a very distinctive and strong flavor that spices up a large number of foods. Warning: pregnant women should not consume this herb.

Rosemary - The very fragrant leaves are used to season and garnish foods.

Thyme - This herb is used to add a bit of flavor to stock and stuffing. Just think how bland your turkey stuffing would taste without a bit of thyme on hand.

Medicinal Herbs
Medicinal herbs are used to treat many health conditions. Natural herbs were used to treat health problems before modern day medicine was widely available. Here are popular herbs to consider.

Chamomile - Chamomile is a wildly popular herb used to treat several types of ailments. Medicinal health benefits include relieving upset stomachs, easing digestion problems, reducing cramping in the stomach. Health experts suggest drinking a hot cup of chamomile tea when ever the conditions arise.

Sage - Sage is a very aromatic plant used in a number of health preparations. It is thought that an infusion made with sage leaves relieves heavy sweating. Sage is also packed with healthy antioxidants that are good for treating nervous conditions.

Thyme - Thyme is used for a large number of health problems. The plant is used to treat arthritis, fungal infections, and bronchitis. There is one precaution: Pregnant women should not use thyme. It might irritate skin.
