Scripture and Prayers for Comfort

Scripture and Prayers for Comfort
It is difficult to believe that there is such a thing as pure evil. But, every so often, we turn on the news or we look out our window and are horrified beyond belief at the evil that is present in the world. Without warning, it rears its ugly head and leaves us feeling helpless against it. Sometimes it seems that Satan wins.

Jesus told His followers that there would be trouble in this world but to take heart because He has overcome the world. We are to find our peace in Him. (John 16:33) As believers, we hold on to that promise but it is not always easy.
Listed below are Scripture verses and prayers for comfort. Look up the verses in your bible to find the strength of God’s word.

  • Psalm 34:18 promises that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray for the families of the victims of this most recent tragedy. Wrap your arms around the brokenhearted and begin the healing of crushed spirits.

  • Psalm 73:26
The psalmist wrote that when our hearts and bodies fail – when we cannot go on - God is our real source of strength.
Prayer: I pray that families who have lost loved ones will fall on Jesus’ strength. I pray that they will know that when they can’t walk one more step on their own, they have a God who will carry them.

  • Isaiah 25:8
The prophet Isaiah promised that there would be a time when death would be no more. There will be a time when the Lord will wipe away every tear.
Prayer: I pray that each grief stricken parent will hold on to the promise of eternity.

  • Isaiah 54:10
God has promised that no matter what horrific events may take place here on this earth; His love is unfailing and unshakeable. He has promised that we can rest in the peace of His presence.
Prayer: I pray for the heartbroken. Lord, hold them in your loving arms and cause your supernatural peace to reside in their hearts.

  • Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus invites us to come to Him and find rest.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, we need your comfort and your rest for our souls.

  • Hebrews 4:14-16:
Our High Priest, Jesus experienced weakness, temptations and even our worst sorrow. We must go boldly to His throne to find mercy and grace.
Prayer: Father, draw us to your throne where we will experience your comfort and peace.

  • Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Prayer: Lord, I hold on to the promise of eternity, where there will be no evil, no more sorrow and no more tears.
