Learning Difficulties or Learning Disabilities?

I found in researching this article that the term 'learning difficulties' is often used in the United Kingdom and Australia, in a similar way that 'learning disabilities' is used in the USA.

This comprehensive site gives goals of what may be expected in different academic subjects by degree of impairment, and also lessons plans in each area. I highly recommend it.

From a parent's point of view, in this article Karen J. Foli tells the story of finding ways to teach her child. Her most adamant advice to other parents is to never give up in that process.

Though the labels 'learning difficulties' and 'learning disabilities' seem to be mostly dependent on the country of origin, both terms apply to students struggling to learn.

Online resources with a brief synopsis of each

1. Planning, teaching and assessing the curriculum for pupils with learning difficulties

2. The Process of Discovery: Finding Out Why Your Child Is Struggling by Karen J. Foli

3. Learning Difficulties - What's in a name?
