1750 - The first documented works of Shakespeare on the American stage occurred today. “Richard III” was performed at New York’s Nassau Street Theater.

1770 - The Boston Massacre occurred today. The event, which preceded the Revolutionary War, killed five Americans.

1922

1933 - President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared a bank holiday to subdue any panic against the nation’s banking system.

1946 - During a speech in Missouri, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill first used the phrase “Iron Curtain”.

1960 - Elvis Presley was honorable discharged from the Army.

Andy Gibb the singer/entertainer behind such hits as “I Just Want to be Your Everything” and “Shadow Dancing” was born in 1958. Andy was also the younger brother of Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb a.k.a. The Bee Gees.

Eddy Grant the singer behind the hit “Electric Avenue” and writer of such notable tunes as “Walking on Sunshine” and “Baby Come Back” was born in 1948.

Rex Harrison the Academy Award winning star of such films as “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”, “Cleopatra” and “My Fair Lady” was born in 1908.

Michael Irvin NFL player turned commentator was born in 1966.

Penn Jillette the talkative half of the comedy/magic act Penn and Teller was born in 1955.

Jake Lloyd best known for his portrayal of the young Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace” was born in 1989.

Eva Mendes who starred in “Ghost Rider”, “Hitch” and “Training Day” was born in 1974.

James Noble who starred on TV’s “Benson” was born in 1922.

James Sikking who starred on TV’s “Hill Street Blues” and “Doogie Howser M.D.” was born in 1934.

Dean Stockwell who starred on TV’s “JAG”, “Battlestar Galactica” and in the film “Married to the Mob” was born in 1936.

Niki Taylor the renowned model was born in 1975.

Henry Travers best remembered as Clarence from “It’s a Wonderful Life” was born in 1874.

Marsha Warfield the actress/comedian best known for her role as Roz on TV’s “Night Court” was born in 1954.

Fred Williamson the former football star turned actor who has starred in “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Starsky and Hutch” was born in 1938.

We Said Goodbye To…

Crispus Attucks one of the victims of the Boston Massacre was killed during the attack in 1770. He was 46.

John Belushi the actor/comedian who starred on TV’s “Saturday Night Live” as well as in the films “1941”, “Animal House’ and “The Blues Brothers” passed away in 1982 at the age of 32.

Whit Bissell the actor who appeared in “Creature from the Black Lagoon” and “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” passed away in 1996 at the age of 86.

Patsy Cline the legendary songstress behind such hits as “Crazy” and “I Fall to Pieces” was killed in a plane crash in 1963. She was 30.

Cowboy Copas who had such hits as “Tennessee Waltz” and “Signed, Sealed and Delivered” was killed in a plane crash in 1963 at the age of 49.

Walt Gorney the actor best remembered as Crazy Ralph from the “Friday the 13th” movies passed away in 2004 at the age of 91.

E.Y. “Yip” Harburg the composer of a number of songs featured in “The Wizard of Oz” including “Over the Rainbow” as well as “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?” passed away in 1981 at the age of 82.

Hawkshaw Hawkins the country singer/entertainer was killed in an airplane crash in 1963 at the age of 41.

William Powell who starred in “My Man Godfrey” and in the “Thin Man” movie series passed away in 1984 at the age of 91.

Jay Silverheels best known as Tonto on TV’s "The Lone Ranger" passed away in 1980 at the age of 60.

Joseph Stalin the former leader of the Soviet Union passed away in 1953 at the age of 73.
