Nodame Cantabile

Nodame Cantabile
Nodame Cantabile is an anime series based on a manga by Tomoko Ninomiya.

Shinichi Chiaki is the top student at Momogaoka College of Music; he's arrogant, and a multilingual perfectionist. He was born into a musical family, and is talented at playing the piano and violin. Shinichi lived abroad as a boy, but is now trapped in Japan due to a phobia of airplanes and the ocean. He has a secret ambition to become a conductor.

By accident, he meets a young woman named Megumi Noda (who goes by "Nodame"). She is a piano student at Momogaoka, but can be rather messy and has eccentric behavior. Even though Nodame is talented, she prefers to play by ear than by the musical score; because of this, she is seen as a sloppy player. After spending time with Shinichi, Nodame finds herself falling in love with him. The series follows what happens between these two characters and the relationship that develops between them.

There is some decent animation in Nodame Cantabile, and it works well for this "slice-of-life" drama series. I also found the characters to be believable, and by the end of the first episode, I found myself genuinely interested in these characters and wanting to know what would happen to them in the next episode.

Content-wise, there really wasn't anything too terribly offensive in the visuals; however, the dramatic storytelling used in the series probably wouldn't be of much interest to younger viewers. Crackle gives this series a TV-PG rating; personally, I would recommend Nodame Cantabile to anime viewers who are 13 or 14 years of age and older.
