Today In …

1841 - The Supreme Court ruled in the Amistad case, advising that the captives on the ship had been taken illegally.

1862 - The USS Monitor fought the CSS Virginia during the Civil War in Hampton Roads, Virginia. This was the first time two ironclad ships had battled.

1959 - Mattel’s Barbie made her debut!

1964 - The Ford Mustang made its debut!

Brian Bosworth former pro football player was born in 1965.

Bow Wow the rapper and actor was born in 1987.

Linda Fiorentino the actress who starred in “Dogma” and “Men in Black” was born in 1960.

Will Geer best known for his role as Grandpa/Zeb Walton on TV’s “The Waltons” was born in 1902.

George Burns the legendary actor/comedian/entertainer who starred with his wife Gracey Allen on TV’s “Burns and Allen” passed away in 1996 at the age of 100.

Alexander Carlisle the renowned Irish ship builder and designer of the Olympic and her sister ship, Titanic, passed away in 1926 at the age of 71.

Chris LeDoux the singer/entertainer behind the song “Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy” passed away in 2005 at the age of 56.

Terry Nation one of the writers/co-creators of the “Dr. Who” series passed away in 1997 at the age of 66.

The Notorious B.I.G. a.k.a. Christopher Wallace was killed in 1997 at the age of 24.

Robert Pastorelli the actor who appeared in the film “Michael” and on TV’s “Murphy Brown” passed away in 2004 at the age of 49.

Maria Ann Smith the person behind Granny Smith Apples passed away in 1870 at the age of 69.
