1804 - The Louisiana Purchase became official with the document signings and celebrations in St. Louis.

1831 - Louis-Philippe of France formed the French Foreign Legion.

1876 - “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you” became the first words uttered over the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was talking to his assistant Thomas Watson.

1969 - James Earl Ray pleaded guilty in the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sharon Stone the star of “Basic Instinct” and “Casino” was born in 1958.

Christopher Titus the actor/comedian and star of TV’s “Titus” was born in 1966.

Dean Torrence one half of the singing duo Jan & Dean was born in 1940.

Shannon Tweed the actress/model and companion of KISS member Gene Simmons was born in 1957.

Carrie Underwood “American Idol” winner and singer of the hit song “Before He Cheats” was born in 1983.

Olivia Wilde the actress who appeared in “The O.C.” and the film “Turistas” was born in 1984.

Lloyd Bridges the legendary actor who starred in “Airplane!” passed away in 1998 at the age of 84.

Danny Joe Brown member of the rock band Molly Hatchett passed away in 2005 at the age of 53.

Zelda Fitzgerald author of “Save Me the Waltz” and wife of renowned writer F. Scott Fitzgerald perished in a fire in 1948 at the age of 47.

Andy Gibb the singer of “I Just Want to be Your Everything” and “Shadow Dancing” passed away in 1988 at the age of 30.

Harriet Tubman abolitionist and one of the key individuals with the Underground Railroad passed away in 1913 at the age of 92.
