1639 - Harvard was officially named after John Harvard who was one of the first donors to the college.

1781 - The planet Uranus was discovered by William Herschel.

1868 - The impeachment trial against U.S. President Andrew Johnson began.

1930 - The official announcement regarding the discovery of Pluto was made today in honor of Percival Lowell’s birthday.

1933 - Some banks were allowed to reopen after President Roosevelt declared a bank holiday.

Fred Berry the actor/entertainer best known for his role as Rerun on TV’s “What’s Happenin’” was born in 1951.

Peter Breck the actor best known for his role as Nick Barkley on TV’s “The Big Valley” was born in 1929.

Adam Clayton the bassist for the rock band U2 was born in 1960.

Dana Delany the star of TV’s “China Beach” and “Pasadena” as well as the film “Tombstone” was born in 1956.

Abigail Fillmore former First Lady and wife of 13th U.S. President Willard Fillmore was born in 1798.

Jan Howard the singer behind the song “Evil on Your Mind” was born in 1930.

L. Ron Hubbard founder of the Church of Scientology was born in 1911.

Percival Lowell the astronomer who predicted the existence of Pluto was born in 1855.

William H. Macy who has starred in the films “Fargo”, “Boogie Nights”, “Air Force One” and “Wild Hogs” was born in 1950.

Danny Masterson who starred on TV’s “That ‘70’s Show” was born in 1976.

Michael Martin Murphey the singer/songwriter who was the voice behind the song “Wildfire” was born in 1945.

Joseph Priestley the scientist who discovered oxygen was born in 1733.

Neil Sedaka the singer/songwriter behind the song “Love Will Keep Us Together” was born in 1939.

We Said Goodbye To…

Tsar Alexander II of Russia was assassinated in 1881 at the age of 62.

Susan B. Anthony one of the leaders of the women’s rights movement passed away in 1906 at the age of 86.

Clarence Darrow the renowned attorney who argued such infamous cases as the Leopold and Loeb murder trial in 1924 and the Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925 passed away in 1938 at the age of 80.

Benjamin Harrison the 23rd President of the United States passed away in 1901 at the age of 67.

Maureen Stapleton the Oscar winning actress of “Reds” passed away in 2006 at the age of 80.

1965 - “Eight Days A Week” by the Beatles
1976 - “December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)” by the Four Seasons
1999 - “Believe” by Cher

Musical Moments In…

1965 - Eric Clapton officially left the rock band The Yardbirds. He would be replaced by Jeff Beck.

1971 - The Allman Brothers recorded their concert at New York’s Fillmore East which resulted in their hit album “At Fillmore East”.

1852 - The first Uncle Sam cartoon was published in New York’s “Lantern” newspaper.
