My Heritage Book Review

Guest Author - Brandii Lacey

Reading with kids is often a wonderful time for families to relax and connect with one another. In our fast world of technology, reading together provides a rare opportunity of one on one communication (minus the ever so popular text messaging).

Deanne Novak, author of My Heritage Book, has created more than just a book to read with your kids. It’s a chance for your children to learn about traditions that are a part of their heritage.

My Heritage Book features wonderful information on traditions and customs from sixty countries, and that number is ever growing. It doesn’t matter if your child was born in the United States or in another country, as each book is personalized according to the child’s heritage (four countries per book). This is a much appreciated feature, as many family heritages come from different parts of the world.

The information on the countries is fun to read and very kid friendly. It’s just enough to spark the child’s interest, while leaving the doors open to learn even more about his or her heritage.

Information about the each country’s location, flag, traditions, and stories are complimented by beautiful artwork. Alicia Bresee created the illustrations for My Heritage Book. The descriptive nature of the countries, combined with the beautiful illustrations, really make this book unique.

Another unique feature about this book is that it allows the child to include information about family traditions. From food, music, dance, holidays, and other fun traditions, your child will be able to describe them all in the “My Family’s Traditions” page. Your child will also have the opportunity to fill in his or her family tree.

Each copy of My Heritage Book is personalized with the child’s name and a special letter to the child from the parents, grandparents, or other special people in the child’s life. To summarize how meaningful the My Heritage Book can be to a child, I’ll quote these lines directly from the book:

“Traditions and the unique countries they come form make a wonderful story and everyone has their own. This book is all about yours!”
