Healthy Dining in Los Angeles

Health-conscious RVers traveling through Los Angeles will have no shortage of fabulous restaurants to choose from. Whether you’re into clean eating, gluten-free, vegan or raw, the City of Angels has you covered. On my most recent trip to Los Angeles, I visited several of my tried-and-true favorite restaurants, like Native Foods and Real Food Daily, and was lucky enough to get acquainted with several more. Below is a list of plenty of restaurants to choose from on your next RV trip to L.A.

Real Food Daily has two locations in Santa Monica and West Hollywood. The restaurant features organic vegan fare. It’s a little spendier than the other restaurants on this list, but it’s east to splurge for the fresh and wholesome food that you’ll find here. My favorite is the Real Food Meal, a hearty dish filled with brown rice, greens, sea veggies, salad and a yummy sauce of your choice. If you head there for brunch, try the gluten-free almond flour pancakes.

KindKreme, located at 1700 West Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park neighborhood inside the hip Sage Organic Bistro, features tasty organic, vegan “icekreme,” shakes, smoothies, coffee and other treats.

Chop Stop, located at 8717 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, is a great place to go if you’re looking for a quick, fresh salad. They feature huge chopped up salads bowls, wraps and rice bowls. You can even create your own salad, which I did, with the gluten-free sesame ginger dressing to go along with it. Chop Stop also has locations in Burbank and Encino.

Rahel Ethiopian Vegan Cuisine, located at 1047 South Fairfax Avenue, features delicious Ethiopian fare in a fresh, contemporary setting. I recommend their fabulous lunch buffet that is filled with savory, classic dishes. They even offer gluten-free injera for gluten sensitive diners.

Café Gratitude, located at 639 N Larchmont Boulevard, is a delightful restaurant and one of my all-time favorite places to eat in Los Angeles. The staff is super friendly, the food is divine, and who can resist a café that is themed around being thankful? Not me! Great dishes include the “I Am Open-hearted” buckwheat and flax pancakes served with cashew whipping cream and the “I Am Mahalo” raw deep dish Hawaiian pizza.

My favorite restaurant, Native Foods, has three locations in the L.A. metro area. Not only is the vegan fare spectacular at Native Foods, but the atmosphere is too. There’s nothing quite like hanging out at Native Foods while sinking your teeth into an order of Native Nachos or getting grounded with a Sesame Kale Macro Bowl. And washing it all down with some Lavender Lemonade is a must!

Veggie Grill, located at 110 South Fairfax Avenue, is a bright and cheerful vegan dining establishment that features a healthy assortment of dishes. My favorites include the Steamin’ Kale with Ginger-Papaya Dressing and Papa’s Portobello sandwich.

Hugo’s, located at 8401 Santa Monica Boulevard, is a lively restaurant featuring a huge menu chock-filled with great vegan and gluten-free options. Head there during happy hour for a delicious and budget-friendly vegan mac & cheese along with a vegan/gluten-free flatbread pizza.

Babycakes NYC, located at 236 North Larchmont Boulevard, is such a lovely place to go to satisfy your sweet tooth. Not only is the atmosphere adorable, but this gluten-free, vegan bakery offers up some of the most delightful cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more.

Speaking of sweet treats, a trip to Breakaway Bakery located at 5264 W. Pico Boulevard is a must. This dedicated gluten-free bakery offers a large variety of vegan options as well. While I have several favorite menu items, I’d most highly recommend the Vegan Babka. It’s out of this world delicious!
