A Day Trip to Santa Monica

A Day Trip to Santa Monica
Santa Monica, California is the quintessential California town. Set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, this thriving coastal community offers something for visitors of all ages.

The perfect place to begin your day is Santa Monica Beach where parking and fun can both be found in abundance. Those looking to begin their day with exercise will want to hike or bike the boardwalk. After that, you can hang out—literally—on the swings and other fitness equipment found at Santa Monica’s Muscle Beach outdoor exercise area located just south of the famed Santa Monica Pier.

Once you’ve satisfied your fitness needs, it’s time to head to the pier and add some excitement with a few rides at the amusement park located on the pier. Once you’ve had enough thrills, take a stroll along the pier while listening to street musicians and catch a glimpse of the ocean from the end of the pier. If your belly is asking for food, there’s plenty to be found either on the pier or nearby on Ocean Avenue.

However, if you’re not starving, it would be worth the wait to head to Real Food Daily, located at 514-516 Santa Monica Boulevard. This amazing restaurant serves up organic vegan fare that can best be described as delectable. My favorite dish is a macrobiotic selection called the Real Food Meal. It’s gluten-free, nut-free and soy-free and bursting with flavor from every angle. Any dish that can make me ask for more sea vegetables is a great dish!

Once you’re done with lunch, it’s time to head back to the beach and soak up that enchanting sun that California is most famous for. After tiring of the sun, dinner will be calling you to Native Foods, located at 2901 Ocean Park Boulevard. This healthy, vegan restaurant chain is my favorite restaurant. You can’t go wrong with anything you order there, but I highly suggest the Native Nachos and the Sesame Kale Macro Bowl paired with a glass of lavender lemonade.

Once your belly is filled and the sun is beginning to set, it’s time to head to the Third Street Promenade and catch what really makes Santa Monica shine. This lovely stretch of downtown Santa Monica is lively all day long, but really becomes sprightly at night. Filled with shops, restaurants and plenty of street musicians and other entertainers, it’s the ideal place to cap off your evening.

No matter where you go or what you do, it’s always a festive time in Santa Monica.
