1849 - The safety pin was patented by Walter Hunt.

1865 - Robert E. Lee gave his last orders to the Confederate troops.

1866 - The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals a.k.a. ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh.

1912 - The R.M.S. Titanic began her maiden voyage.

1974 - The magicians Penn & Teller first met. The rest, as they say, is history!

David Angell producer of the TV favorites “Cheers” and “Frasier” was born in 1946.

William Booth the founder of the Salvation Army was born in 1829.

Chuck Connors best known as the title character on TV’s “The Rifleman” was born in 1921.

Warren DeMartini guitarist for the rock band Ratt was born in 1963.

Kenneth Edmunds a.k.a. Babyface, the renowned music producer was born in 1958.

Orlando Jones who starred in “The Replacements”, “Runaway Jury” and TV’s “MadTV” was born in 1968.

Peter MacNicol who starred on TV’s “Ally McBeal”, “Numb3rs” and “24” was born in 1954.

John Madden the famed NFL coach and commentator was born in 1936.

Don Meredith former NFL quarterback and broadcaster was born in 1938.

Mandy Moore singer of “Candy” and star of “Saved!” and “American Dreamz” was born in 1984.

Harry Morgan star of TV’s “M*A*S*H” and “Dragnet” was born in 1915.

Haley Joel Osment star of “The Sixth Sense” and “Secondhand Lions” was born in 1988.

Frances Perkins was born in 1882. Perkins became the first female cabinet member when President Franklin Roosevelt appointed her to the position of Secretary of Labor.

Joseph Pulitzer journalist and publisher was born in 1847.

Junior Samples best known for his appearances on TV’s “Hee Haw” was born in 1926.

Steven Seagal star of “Above the Law”, “Under Siege” and “The Glimmer Man” was born in 1951.

Brian Setzer front man for The Stray Cats was born in 1959.

Omar Sharif the legendary actor who starred in “Dr. Zhivago” and “Lawrence of Arabia” was born in 1932.

Max Von Sydow from the films “Flash Gordon”, “What Dreams May Come” and “Minority Report” was born in 1929.

Sheb Wooley the actor/comedian/singer was born in 1921.

We Said Goodbye To…

Sam Kinison the actor/comedian was killed in an auto accident in 1992 at the age of 38.

Larry Linville best known for his role as Major Frank Burns on TV’s “M*A*S*H” passed away in 2000 at the age of 60.

Little Eva who sang the hit song “Loco-Motion” passed away in 2003 at the age of 59.

Marjorie Main who starred in such films as “Dead End”, “Friendly Persuasion” and “Meet Me In St. Louis” passed away in 1975 at the age of 85.

Natalie Schafer who will forever be remembered as Mrs. Howell on TV’s “Gilligan’s Island” passed away in 1991 at the age of 90.
