Today In …

1775 - The American Revolution began with the battle of Lexington and Concord was fought.

1993 - A fire at the Branch Dividian compound in Waco, Texas ended in tragedy when a fire broke out, killing over eighty people.

1995 - 168 people were killed during the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

2000 - The Oklahoma City National Memorial was dedicated.

2005 - Cardinal Ratzinger officially became Pope Benedict XVI.

Eliot Ness the legendary lawman was born in 1903.

Hugh O’Brian who starred on TV’s “The Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp” was born in 1925.

George O’Brien who starred in “Fort Apache” and “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” was born in 1899.

Dick Sargent the actor who originally played Darren on TV’s “Bewitched” was born in 1930.

Maria Sharapova the Russian tennis champion was born in 1987.

Hugh Brannum the actor best remembered as Mr. Green Jeans on TV’s “Captain Kangaroo” passed away in 1987 at the age of 77.

Lord Byron the English poet whose works include “Don Juan” passed away in 1824 at the age of 36.

Pierre Curie the physicist/scientist who, with wife Marie, researched radiation, passed away in 1906 at the age of 46.

Charles Darwin the scientist/biologist who developed the theory of evolution passed away in 1882 at the age of 73.

Ruth Hussey who starred in “Philadelphia Story” passed away in 2005 at the age of 93.
