1941 - The German destroyer The Bismarck sank the British vessel The HMS Hood during World War II.

Gene Clark one of the co-founders of rock music’s The Byrds passed away in 1991 at the age of 46.

Nicolaus Copernicus the famed astronomer passed away in 1543 at the age of 70.

John Foster Dulles diplomat and former Secretary of State whose namesake is Dulles International Airport passed away in 1959 at the age of 71.

Duke Ellington the famed jazz musician passed away in 1974 at the age of 75.

Edward Mulhare who starred in “Othello” and on TV’s “Knight Rider” passed away in 1997 at the age of 74.
