Looking for something sweeter, try these new wines.
Many times wine drinkers give the impression that they are snobs when it comes to sweet wines. These have have a definite place at the table. When paired with certain desserts the flavors play off one another, creating a wonderful experience of flavors. These are two wines not to be missed.
Etko St. Nicholas Commandaria
This wine comes from the Greek island of Cyprus. This is a full bodied wine, more in the style of Sherry or Port. You will experience the same heaviness in your mouth, providing a marvelous companion to fruit dishes. You will experience flavors of toffee, spices, baked apples and pears. There is smoke and orange rind impressions at the finish. You can find this wine in the $10-15 range.
St. Urbans-Hof Riesling
This 2001 vintage from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer presents itself as a Riesling. It is pale, almost clear, in color, with tints of green. There are very pleasant lime and citrus aromas. This is a promise of the lime and lemon flavors. These are not over done, accompanied by hints of peach, and light fruits. Don't pair this with overly sweet desserts. A light citrus souffle or citrus sorbets pair marvelously. Tropical fruits would compliment this wine as well. Expect to pay about $11.
