Here is a list of signs for parents to look for suggesting their child may have a learning disability. I have used the male gender in the examples to mean either a male or female.
In language he may have difficulty learning the alphabet letters and sounds; rhyming words; have trouble reading aloud and not understanding what he reads. Handwriting may be messy and the pencil held awkwardly.
Child may have trouble expressing himself in writing, learn language late and use a limited vocabulary. He may substitute words that sound similar. He may not be able to recount events in order from a story.
May have trouble following directions, and may have trouble beginning and completing tasks. He may have trouble remembering the sequence of steps in a project he needs to repeat.
In math child may confuse symbols and numbers. He may have trouble remembering a string of numbers, like a telephone number, that he knew 5 minutes before. He may have trouble remembering addresses including his own.
And he may be lacking social skills during conversations and have trouble taking turns.
