Here are three crafts to do when it’s too cold and wet to go outside.
Sun Catchers
You will need:
-Elmer’s Glue
-Wax Paper
-Silver or Blue Glitter
-String
-Food Coloring
Snowman
To make a snowman lay the wax paper flat and with the Elmer’s Glue make two or three blobs stacked on top of each other that decreases in size. If you want to hang your snowman when it is finished lay the ends of a piece of string in the top of your snowman.
To decorate your snowman you can sprinkle glitter over it while it is still wet. Or you can wait until it is dry and add a hat and scarf. To add a bit of color, pour a small amount of glue in to a small dish and ad a drop of food coloring to it. Stir, then slowly and drizzle over your snowman. Once completely dry, carefully peel off of the wax paper.
Snowflake
Snowflakes are extremely easy to make. Since the glue dries clear I poured it into a small bowl and added a drop of blue food coloring. I gave it a quick stir so that it would be streaked but not uniformly blue. Just pour the glue in the shape of a snowflake and allow to dry. Once dry carefully peel off the wax paper.
Framed Winter Scenes
You will need:
-Wax paper cut to size
-Picture frames
-Elmer’s glue
-Glitter
-Food coloring
I found that making the snowflakes and snowman to be too difficult for my preschool aged son. So I made a couple small snowflakes and a snowman and let them completely dry. Once they were dry I removed them and laid them on a plate.
Next cut a 5x7 or 8x10 piece of wax paper and laid it out and gave the child the already made snowflakes and snowman. Have them glue them onto the wax paper and add some glitter all around. After it had dried remove the cardboard back that comes with the frame and put the picture in front of the glass. The glass will help hold the picture in place. Some pictures may require gluing the wax paper to the glass. If this is needed, don’t worry the glue will dry clear.
