Aubrietia canescens Purple Cascade is a hardy perennial that flowers in the spring and will drape itself over a bank or wall for a gorgeous splash of early colour in the garden

Campanula Trachelium or Bellflower is a hardy perennial that reaches to 2-3 foot or 60cm-1m. It likes to grow in moist but well drained soil in a sunny spot and has wide bell shaped blue flowers in the summer months.

Cynara cardunculus or Cardoon is a dramatic plant that has silver grey leaves and large thistle like purple flowers in the summer. It is only half hardy and needs a sunny sheltered spot with fertile well drained soil. Grows to 6 foot or 2m.

Delphiniums- no English Garden should be without some of these. Try any of these varieties - Black Knight, Chelsea Star, Mighty Atom, Bruce or Fanfare. They like a sunny area with fertile well drained soil and flower throughout the summer.

Salvia nemorsa or May Night is a clump-forming hardy perennial that has violet blue flowers all summer. It prefers to grow in a sunny spot in fertile and well-drained soil.

Stachy macrantha Superba is a clump forming hardy perennial that has purple/violet flowers in the summer. It grows to 12 to 18 inches or 30 45 cm and likes a sunny spot.

Pansies Universal Purple or Delta Pure Violet

Phlox Paniculata- Amethyst has violet flowers with a light fragrance.

Platycodon grandiflorus or Balloon Flower has beautiful bell shaped flowers in the summer. It is a hardy perennial and grows to 18-24inches or 45-60cm.

Thalictrum aquilegiifolum chelidonii - despite its long name it is a delightful flower with fluffy violet blooms in summer. It is a hardy perennial with grey green leaves that prefers a sunny spot with well drained soil.

Veronica langifolia Romily Purple. A hardy perennial that prefers well drained soil in a sunny area of your garden. Grows to 3-4 foot or 1-1.2m.

Viola Roscastle Black is a rich deep purple.
