Little Knives kept me up late, turning just one more page, just one more page, to see what would happen next. All of the stories are suspenseful, well-paced and written, and just twisted and demented enough to be satisfying. I really enjoyed it. It’s not the most gruesome horror I’ve read lately, and while I love a good dose of carnage, sometimes I like reading something a little less bloody. The twelve stories in this book vary in theme and tone but a common thread of the supernatural that runs through them all. Some of them reminded me a little of Edgar Allen Poe because of their atmosphere and tone, others happily reminded me of Saturday afternoon Chiller Theatre TV, which I loved to watch as a kid. The stories have interesting characters: the Confederate soldier who shares an eerie secret with his sister, the WWI photographer who faces a terror much scarier than the war itself, the knight whose sleep is continually haunted. There are also a pair of deliciously demonic crows, a girl obsessed with vampires, and probably my favorite, the jealous husband with the strange pathological fear of hair, even his own. I love weird psychological things like that.
All in all a good read! So check it out. Davis was featured at Horrorfind IV earlier this month and you can visit his official Little Knives website. He's currently working on his first novel and I think he’ll be a writer to enjoy in the future as well.
