Chronicles of Narnia Clues : Mrs. MacreadyMrs. Macready is Professor Digory Kirke’s housekeeper. The four Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy come to live with the professor during World War II. Many parents are evacuating their children out of London, England. They fear for their children’s lives. The German Air Force constantly bombs the city. In C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Mrs. Macready is a stern woman. She informs the four children, there is to be no shouting and running throughout Professor Digory Kirke’s house. The children are not to disturb the Professor from his studies. Professor Kirke has a large estate in the country. Mrs. Macready efficiently runs the house. She loves the house and its contents, but shows no affection toward the motherless orphans. She leaves the children to find their own pleasures. Mrs. Macready loves to conduct tours of the house. It is her favorite duty. She instructs the children not to be seen by any of the tourists. It is this instruction which has the Pevensie orphans hiding in the Wardrobe. One day, they are playing. They overhear Mrs. Macready operating one of her tours. The group is advancing toward where the children play. They hide in the wardrobe to escape detection. Of course, this is the magical wardrobe. The wardrobe is a portal to the land of Narnia. Narnia is under a spell cast by Queen Jadis, the White Witch. The hundred-year-old spell has Narnia in a deep freeze. In The Witch, the Lion and the Wardrobe, Narnia is all snow and ice. Mr. Tumnus and Mr. & Mrs. Beaver serve the children tea. Have a cup of tea while reading the Chronicles of Narnia. A cup of hot tea and a good book is quite relaxing. Play the Narnia Hangman Game.
