Vintage Inspired Fragrances and Their Story
You'll see them packaged in simple, yet elegant bottles, reminiscent of a time when "Real" perfume was as natural as smelling a rose. No gimmicks, no fuss, just pure ecstasy.

You might find these perfumes in high-end department stores or if it's a specialty store launching its own brand, you'll definitely find it there. In a world where scents are a part of your everyday life, it’s no wonder that vintage blends would inspire new launches.

In this article, you’ll find two new perfumes that have been launched within the past year and heavily influenced by past icons or times in history.

The Fragrance Wardrobe in Elegant Colors - Diana Vreeland

In September of 2014, the Diana Vreeland Parfum Collection was launched. Diana Vreeland was the Fashion Editor for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar and literally changed the world of fashion. Known for her signature red, her sense of style was like no one else's in the industry. She was referred to as the Empress of Fashion. One of her famous quotes: The only real elegance is in the mind: If you've got that, the rest really comes from it."

She believed that a woman should have a scent for very mood, a "wardrobe" of scents if you will. That being said, her grandson, Alexander Vreeland, chose to launch a collection of five scents.

Packaged in rectangular bottles reminiscent of the 1920's, the collection includes:

Extravagance Russe rich in an amber-colored bottle, it contains ambers and resins.

Absolutely Vital is orange, with woods and rose absolute.

Perfectly Marvelous is Diana Vreeland's signature red, which features jasmine blended with cashmere woods.

Outrageously Vibrant is pink, with cassis, rose and patchouli.

Simply Divine is purple and described as "ode to the tuberose flower."

If you've never heard of Diana Vreeland, it would be worth every minute of your time to learn more about her. If you're involved in the world of fashion and beauty, it's a must.

J. Crew Inspired by Vintage

In August 2014 J. Crew launched its first fragrances, No. 31 and No. 57. Why 31 and 57? On January 5, 1943, the first all female modern art show took place in the U.S. It was called "Exhibition by 31Women" and it was held on East 57th Street in New York City.

No. 31 has notes of red vermouth, with an accord of Bulgarian Rose, Damson plum, Patchouli and Oak Moss.

No.57 contains aged whiskey, cinnamon bark, oak wood, cedar wood, labdanum and vanilla. These scents were developed exclusively for J.Crew by Huber who founded a niche fragrance company Arquiste, in collaboration with Rodrigo Flore-Roux and Yann Vasnier.
