Barack

Artist, musician and author Jonah Winter writes Barack. A. G. Ford illustrates the story book. His illustrations are stunning. The text is in a lyrical format. Kids between four and eight-years-old will love the rhythm of speech as they learn about Barack Obama. The man elected November 2008 to become the 44th President of the United States of America.

Preschool and elementary kids learn about his birth, childhood, schooling and careers. Kids learn the road was not always easy. Hard work and perseverance help Barack Obama reach his personal goals. Also, they help him help his fellow men and women. Hopefully, juveniles will learn achievements are not always easy, but with hard work theycan achieve, too.

Jonah Winter uses simple terms to tell about Barack Obama’s parents. “His mother was born in Kansas; his father was born in Africa. Barack was born in Hawaii.” The picture book continues with Obama’s life in Indonesia. Later, he returns to United States and obtains his higher education. Juveniles learn about his career as a law professor and community organizer in Chicago. He becomes an Illinois State Senator, United States Senator and Presidential Candidate.

Adults forget kids listen to adult conversations. Who is Barack Obama? Who is the man who will be the next President? Jonah Winter answers these questions and more in Barack. The lyrical text and well-executed illustrations are a delight to the ears and eyes. The thirty-two page children's juvenile book works well as a bedtime book or circle book. Winter wrote the picture book before the November 2008 election. Therefore, parents and teachers have to supply the fact he is the President-Elect. Or if read after the inauguration, he is the 44th President of United States of America.
