Child Abuse Deaths Since 2006

Part of my goal for this site, as the editor, is to raise awareness of those cases of child abuse deaths that have been reported and documented. While I will not list specific names, I will indeed list how many children died per month and their age ranges.

In January of 2006, there were a total of twenty-eight children that died due to child abuse. Of those twenty-eight children, the youngest was five days old and the oldest was 17-years-old. The injuries inflicted upon these children ranged from burns to literal torture.

In February of 2006, there were a total of fifteen children that died of child abuse. Of those fifteen children, the youngest was a newborn and the oldest was 15-years-old. The perpetrators in these cases were not always the parents of the child. In some cases, they were babysitters, adoptive parents, step-parents, and relatives of the family.

In March of 2006, there were a total of fifteen children that died because of child abuse. Of those fifteen children, the youngest was a newborn and the oldest was 14-years-old. The majority of deaths during this month were perpetrated by the children’s parents. During this time, one infant was actually run over and left for dead in the street.

In April of 2006, there were a total of five child abuse related deaths. Of those, the youngest was 15-months-old and the oldest was 10-years-old.

While I’m sure that there are other documented cases of children’s deaths, I am not aware of them personally. I have only listed those cases that I know to be true, according to the media. Altogether, a total of sixty-three children have died, due to the abuse they suffered. This is, in my opinion, completely ludicrous. There is no possible justification or reasoning that one can give for the death of those precious and innocent children. Each child deserved to live and experience the vibrancy of life. Each child deserved to have that chance at growing up. Each of those children deserved to know the sound of laughter and carefree giggles. Instead, each of those children died a tragic and horrible death, at the hands of those that were supposed to love them the most. Yet, rather than embrace these children in arms of compassion and tender love, the adults that cared for them killed them.

Our society must begin to take the issue of child abuse seriously. We must, as a society, begin to focus on areas of reform within our communities. There is much work to be done, in order to protect the children. It means that people should begin to lobby their legislators, as well as to contact their senators and seek reformation and change. It is no longer acceptable for a professional to utter the statement that our justice system needs work. In my opinion, that is merely an excuse for one that chooses to not take the matter seriously.

Of those sixty-three children that died, each of their deaths were indeed preventable. In some cases, the child protection agency within the states had already held investigations with some of the families. Yet, the children still died. We need to take a stand, within our communities and rally for change. Our children deserve to live.
