Scents of Summer

Hot fun in the summertime! Are you ready for the scents and sights of summer? Let's take a look at Lemon and Spearmint Essential oils. Tart, citrus, and minty, whether used in the oil form or herbal/fruit form, these two oils will add intrigue and excitement into summer aromas and blends.

There's nothing like a cool glass of fresh lemonade, iced tea or a Mint Julep to ward of the summer heat.

It's not the drinks that make for summer scents but the ingredients of the lemon and the mint that set them off.

Lemon - The fresh pulp delights our taste buds, whether in a cool drink or enhancing the flavor of a freshly cooked piece of fish. But it's the lemon oil that brings the extensive healing properties into your scent world.

Not only does lemon essential oil kill bacteria and germs in minutes, it enhances your immune system by stimulating white blood cell production allowing the body to fight off infection.

Lemon oil encourages the elimination of waste. It's also said to tone your heart, liver and kidneys as well as lower blood pressure and stimulate circulation.

Beauty and Lemon Oil

In perfumery, Lemon oil would be considered a top note. It would be one of the first initial scents that you smell.

Lemon oil is considered an uplifting oil so when you smell it in a perfume blend, you get a citrusy, light refreshing aroma and feeling.

With your skin, Lemon oil balances overactive sebaceous glands that cause oily skin. It's said to help clear acne and control oily hair and hair that has dandruff. Lemon oil can also strengthen brittle nails.

Caution: When using Lemon oil avoid over exposure to the sun because lemon oil is phototoxic.

Spearmint - Minty, slightly fruity, invigorating and refreshing, Spearmint is a wonderful essential oil. Spearmint will be used as a top note just as lemon, in the world of perfumery.

More subtle than peppermint, spearmint is used in place of or in addition to peppermint oil in perfume blends.

Beauty and Spearmint Oil

Spearmint oil can be used as a refreshing and stimulating facial steam. Several drops in a vapor steamer or bowl of hot water and your face will receive a treatment that will cleanse and refine your pores.

Two drops of spearmint oil in your bath water will relieve fatigue in your body. Several drops of spearmint oil added to a massage oil or cream can relieve itching in your skin and encourage relaxation.

These are just two of the Scents of Summer that will have your palette or your person experiencing great aromas they possess. What's on your list of Scents of Summer?
