Kitten's First Full Moon - Book Review Kitten’s First Full Moon is by Kevin Henkes. Kitten is on the the porch, looking up at the night sky. She sees what appears to be a bowl of delicious milk in the sky. Actually, it is a full moon. The first full moon viewed by Kitten. She is determined to partake of what she thinks is milk. Kevin Henkes' Kitten's First Full Moon is a picture book with a storyline and artwork that are simple but stirring. Like a true kitten, Kitten scrunches up and pounces, tumbles and rolls. She chases after the bowl of milk. The drawings are black and white with the grey of the outdoors at night. The light of the moon shines on Kitten. It reflects on the pond and lights the kitten’s path. A tired Kitten returns home and finds a bowl of milk. Happy, she drinks the milk. Kevin Henkes' Kitten’s First Full Moon is the winner of the 2005 Caldecott Medal and a New York Times best seller. The picture book is for children between four and eight-years-old. Yet, younger kids will enjoy the story book, too. Read the book in the classroom circle or as a bedtime book. Children love the little kitten's antics.
