According to a personal friend, Abraham Lincoln dreamed of his own assassination shortly before his death. Ward Hill Lamon gives an account of the dream in his book Recollections of Abraham Lincoln. According to Lamon, Lincoln dreamed of hearing people sobbing. In his dream, he got up and wandered through the house, seeing no one but continuing to hear "people who were grieving as though their hearts would break." He finally came upon a room where a funeral scene was taking place surrounded by armed guards. When he demanded to know what was going on, one of the guards told him that the president had been assassinated. Lincoln recounted that he woke up upon hearing a loud "burst of grief" from the crowd.
In a book review on Amazon, Lamon is criticized in his accounts of Lincoln as being biased since he was a close personal friend of the president's.
